On another glorious sunny day, Kempton skipper Si Arscott won the toss and decided to bat first and make first use of a good pitch and a quick outfield. Openers Maidment and Palekar got Kempton off to a rapid start, scoring 49 off the first 5 overs. Maidment in particular, found the bowling to his liking, taking five fours from the 4th over. A stand of 55 was ended with Palekar LBW for 12, and his replacement Ben Green followed him quickly back, bowled by the impressive Hassan Gill for just 4. David Maidment and Captain Si Arscott took the scoreboard along to 95, as the run-rate slowed in the face of some much-improved bowling.

Maidment reached an excellent half-century before hitting a full-toss straight to mid-off off the bowling of Khalid for 62. New batsman Dylan Richards got into his stride quickly, timing the ball well down the ground and on the leg side. Young spinner Jay Patel grabbed the wicket of the Kempton skipper in his second over for 19 as runs became hard to come by. Martin Sherwood followed soon after for 11, and it was left to Wayne ‘Mr Big’ Morgan and Dylan to push the score close to 200. After an indifferent start, Biggy soon found his timing and launched a number of hard-hit boundaries over mid-off and cover. Dylan Richards fell in Patel’s last over, bowled looking for the boundary for a well-constructed 34. But with the help of the lower-order, Biggy was able to see Kempton to 192-7 off their 40 over’s despite being run-out in the last over for 29.

Quick wickets were needed by Kempton to continue the momentum gained from the last over’s of their batting effort. Nick Peters and Matt Loveridge took the new ball and gave little away in a tight opening spell. The pressure slowly built and Nick Peters was able to take the first wicket, bowling opener Malik for 8, whilst Javid followed in the next over for a duck stumped by Arscott off Loveridge. Khalid came to the wicket and started well putting a number of bad balls away to the boundary. Following an excellent 8-over spell of bowling by Loveridge that went for just 23 runs, BA looked to be wrestling the initiative back before James Warne made a double-strike. He first removed opener Amar Lal for 14 then grabbed the wicket of Khalid, plumb in front, for 34.

Salman and Rawman joined forces to slowly put British Airways on top. They combined to see BA past the hundred without further loss through a combination of quick-singles and frequent unorthodox boundaries. Their stand was aided by some wayward bowling and four dropped catches, before Biggy settled into a rhythm to help raise the required run-rate towards 6 an over. At the other end, Martin Sherwood picked up the crucial wicket off Rawman, skying a catch to point where Palekar was able to grab the chance. A further wicket fell in the next over, before Salman and captain Flannary, started to lead the BA fight-back. Nick Peters returned for the last 6 overs with 40 still needed, and picked up Flannary unluckily dragging on for 16. With the boundaries almost completely dried-up, and only a handful of singles available, Salman pushed into the covers and Ben Green was able to take aim at one-stump to produce an excellent run-out. The remaining two wickets fell quickly, first to Maidment with the help of a Gawley catch and the tenth to Peters, caught Sherwood at mid-on.

On balance, a deserved 30-run win by Kempton but improvements need to be made in the field if a winning start is to be made in the league next Saturday.
