The 2nd XI season got underway with a comfortable win against Old Woking.  On a beautiful warm & sunny day the 2nd XI had an unfamiliar look due to many club members being away on Wardy's Stag weekend. This however provided opportunities for those that normally play on the back square to have a game on the main pitch, a chance that they took with relish as we dominated from start to finish.

We fielded first and all the bowlers put in encouraging early season performances as wickets fell at regular intervals with only the Old Woking skipper offering much in the way of resistance, although his innings almost ground to a halt as the Kempton spinners exerted such a stranglehold that Old Woking could muster only 124 all out off 44 overs despite a perfect pitch and short boundary on one side. The bowlers were well supported by excellent fielding with two well executed run outs. All the bowlers got amongst the wickets with stand in skipper Trevor Warne leading the way with 4-10 off 9 overs and an encouraging debut from Nick Peters whose deserved better than 1-23.

Our response with the bat was clinical as opening pair Luca Seneviratne & Richard Warne found the Old Woking attack too short and regularly dispatched the ball to the boundary with Luca's first three scoring shots for the season all clearing the square leg boundary. Richard played on for 42 and James Bonner fell cheaply but with Luca in no troubled we eased past the target in only the 19th over, Luca finishing unbeaten on 58.
