The arrival of
the match against WEE was much anticipated. There was a sense that this would
be a real test of the team. Two changes to the team that defeated Chobham,
Alan and Toby in for Nip and Charlie, travelled the short distance to WEE
with any Champions League thoughts clearly in the back of the minds.
A
"healthy" covering of grass on the wicket meant that this was
clearly going to be an interesting game that was going to be determined on the
toss of the coin. So when coin landed heads there was no hesitation in
electing to field first.
From there on
in it became a game of attrition as opening pair of Joel and Hendo proceeded
to replicate their from from the end of 2010 and bowled with great speed,
direction, control and movement. Aside from one expensive over of 14 from
Hendo Ks were firmly on top and dismissed WEE for 54 runs: Joel returning
league best figures of 7 for 20). The score may have been even lower had we
taken the chances from Hendo's spell.
Ks innings
started well with Ellis and Martin putting on 20 for the first wicket and us
seemingly working slowly towards a regulatory win. However, as we showed when
you bowl well and the pitch is conducive to movement wickets can fall. Three
quick wickets and a slowing run rate quickly put the pressure firmly back on
Ks. More wickets fell but useful contributions from Richard, Toby and lusty
blows from Alan took Ks over the required target for the loss of 6 wickets.
Enough said
that 110 runs were scored and 16 wickets were taken in the course of the game.
Suffice to say a great result in the end that provides good momentum into
another tough game next week against Sanderstead.
